Mohawk and Smart Strand

Smart Strand® with DuPont™ Sorona® renewably sourced polymer is made, inpart, with naturally occurring sugars from readily available and renewable crops. Sorona's key fiber ingredient is Bio-PDO™, produced from corn sugar. By utilizing this central ingredient, 37% of Sorona can be made from renewable resources instead of the more limited petrochemical-based ingredients that are used in most other carpets.

Shaw and Clear Touch

Clear Touch® styles of carpet are environmentally sound choices,since the fiber contains post-consumer recycled content. Shaw utilizes material from PET bottles that might otherwise end up in landfills. Millions of pounds of soft drink and water bottles will be used to manufacture ClearTouch carpets.

The energy savings related to the recyling effort will save more than one trillion BTU's of energy annually, or the equivalent amount of energy necessary to power approximately 9,000 U.S. homes per year.
